I used acrylic, paper and found objects to depict the attempted silencing of the artist within by the grown-ups in my childhood. They were afraid that I would become a dreamer and not make a living, so discouraged me from making art. I did this with my non-dominant hand the summer before I started back to college art, in my late 40's! I had CPS and MD, but was determined not to be stopped.
I am co-founder and President Emeritus of The Rat Retreat, Inc. I love animals, particularly domestic rats, so they show up in a lot of my work. I live in the Pacific Northwest now, am southern US born and have lived in 7 states. I could easily pick up and move anywhere. I don't much care where I am as long as I can get near some water and am surrounded by trees, rats and birds. I graduated from WSU with a major in Communication and minor in Fine Art. I followed that with 2 more years of art courses at BSU and local small classes. Currently I am focused on Mixed Media Collage. Houses and rats are two current themes in my work.
