We had started rescue and wound up with four pregnant rats resulting in over 30 babies. I was still relatively new to rats and cautious around the mothers. The other 3 had nipped me when I tried to handle their babies. But Pearl wanted out to play! She was still a wonderful mother. However, she wanted her free time. This is her in the playpen, watching me as I play with her babies. She was the first rat mom to trust me and I bonded with her. This is the photo I used to paint her.
I am co-founder and President Emeritus of The Rat Retreat, Inc. I love animals, particularly domestic rats, so they show up in a lot of my work. I live in the Pacific Northwest now, am southern US born and have lived in 7 states. I could easily pick up and move anywhere. I don't much care where I am as long as I can get near some water and am surrounded by trees, rats and birds. I graduated from WSU with a major in Communication and minor in Fine Art. I followed that with 2 more years of art courses at BSU and local small classes. Currently I am focused on Mixed Media Collage. Houses and rats are two current themes in my work.
