Artist's Description

This was created for a showed named Pipe Dreams. Floyd was rescued by The Rat Retreat, Inc. In the evenings, he liked to lie in the crook of my arm, gazing up at me, while 10 of his siblings scampered around him. If someone tried to displace him, he gave a little grunt/squeal in protest. Every once in awhile he scooted toward me, trying to get closer. He died of cancer, but never lost his loving spirit.

About Dawn Boswell Burke

Dawn Boswell Burke

I am co-founder and President Emeritus of The Rat Retreat, Inc. I love animals, particularly domestic rats, so they show up in a lot of my work. I live in the Pacific Northwest now, am southern US born and have lived in 7 states. I could easily pick up and move anywhere. I don't much care where I am as long as I can get near some water and am surrounded by trees, rats and birds. I graduated from WSU with a major in Communication and minor in Fine Art. I followed that with 2 more years of art courses at BSU and local small classes. Currently I am focused on Mixed Media Collage. Houses and rats are two current themes in my work.
